Prenatal chewable vits and other concerns..

Has anybody been able to find chewable prenatal vitamins? I don't know if it's just nerves or what but i haven't been able to swallow pills larger then Tylenol as a post-op.

Also, before I found out I was pregnant I noticed that I had been feeling very very dizzy as I get up from a laying or sitting position. I feel a head rush and my sight goes as does my balance. I blamed it on the elevation here in CO since I'm not used to living here but when I found out I was pregnant I thought maybe the dizzies might somehow be related to the pregnancy and WLS? Maybe I need to make some diet changes?

I have lost all but 8lbs of my excess weight in these last 2 years but I've never completely abandoned carbs. I've always incorporated  them in healthy amounts into my diet.

I don't get to see a doctor for another few weeks so I figured it would not hurt to ask here while I wait for my appointment date. In some ways I kind of trust the opinions of people here more then I do any doctors who have limited experience with RNY patients anyway.

My OB prescribed Select-OB Chewable vitamins for me.  They cost more than the ones I got at Walmart, but she would rather me use them so I'll hopefully absorb more.

Have you had your blood pressure checked?  That might be causing the dizziness when you stand up.

Don't know about the vits, since I can swallow the regular ones.  As far as the dizziness, you may want to change your eating habits.  Sometimes, WL patients suffer low blood sugar in the beginning of pregnancy (some experience the entire time).  You would need to make sure the healthy carbs you are eating are balanced with protien so your body doesn't burn the carbs and think it has nothing to use. (poor explaination probably) Eating small meals or snacks more often helps.  It also could be because of the increased blood flow...it always feels like my heart is pounding and I breath heavier, but my weight has been stable and my BP is always great.  Ah, some of the joys of pregnancy...I'm hoping you skip the tired as a zombie part.

When I am dizzy which is daily I have to add more water. Lots more. I have to eat every 2-3 hours also to keep food in my tummy so I dont feel like crap. I just take regular vits but I know they do have chewables.

There's not a WHOLE lot of differences between prenates and regular multivites.  Prenates have a bit more iron and b-vites, but they are basically the same thing.

Just stick with 2 multivites I'm sure you're already taking.

I went out and bought some before reading this so I just going to replace one of my multis with a prenatal. That should work right?

My Dr. told me he chewable ones are fine. As far as dizziness I was the same was i was told to eat every hour and half. Eat crackers and cheese before going to bed. And string cheese, yogurt, and PROTEIN throughout the day! Congrats on the BFP!!
Hope that helps

Cristy~ Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome back to the US lol.  Sorry to hear you're having dizziness problems...  I did too when I was pregnant, but it was my blood pressure being too low.   Maybe get that checked?  I've been told you can take the chewable prenatals.  I think you can order them online or maybe the OB can prescribe them... I just took the "horse pills" myself. I don't have too much trouble swallowing pills.  You've done great with your weight loss so I think you'll be just fine with this pregnancy.  If you need anything, feel free to PM me :)

I just picked up women's one a day prenatal pack. It's a multi with double the folic acid and a DHA/EPA gell cap .. I didn't see any chewables but i was able to swollow these OK.

SO, now this is my plan:

Morning

1 prenatal

1 DHA/EPA gell cap

2 B12 sub lingual

Evening

1 multi

2 calcium citrate

That gives me like 1200mcg of folic acid. I don't know if that's good enough but I was only takeing 2 multi vits a day before.
